Russia-Pakistan ties on a new fruitful path

Courtesy:-  Salahuddin Haider AFTER biter twists and turns for three decades, which saw the traumatic events of 1971, Pak-Russian ties have begun to take happier dimensions. Some recent exchange of visits by General Pervez Musharraf, and more recently by President Zardari and Prime MInister Gilani, Moscow too seems keen to respond with warmth and eager to help Pakistan some of its complex problems. A good augury indeed. World over foreign policies of any country, is designed to serve that country’s national interest.

Lest the nation forget

Courtesy:-  Wajid Shamsul Hasan The legacy of national reconciliation bequeathed by martyred Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto to the people of Pakistan nourished by her blood has finally become the order of the day. The government of national reconciliation has shown the way for establishing democracy and a culture of tolerance. Notwithstanding the challenging circumstances, President Zardari was entrusted by history to lead the nation following Benazir Bhutto's elimination by the anti-democratic forces, only a man of his calibre could translate the great leader's vision in politics.

Saluting the Gayari Jawans!

Courtesy:- Air Cdre Khalid Iqbal (R) As the number of recovered bodies of martyrs begins to grow, a national salute is due to the boys conducting search and rescue operations at the highest battle zone of the world. This would probably be remembered as one of the most challenging search and rescue operations in the military history. Pakistan Air Force made significant contribution towards this effort by speedily airlifting requisite heavy machinery. Acknowledgment is also due to the friendly countries for their expert advice, material contribution and Physical participation in the effort. Gayari incident is indeed a great national loss. Pakistan lost 129 hardened combatants and 11 skilled civilians. All Gayari avalanche victims were declared as martyrs on the 53rd day of the the occurrence. After the passage of 52 days, the nature and magnitude of the calamity was suggestive of no probability of recovering anyone alive. ISPR said given the improbability of recovering anyone alive, a

Bahawalpur, Multan and more

Courtesy:- Rasul Bakhsh Rais President Asif Ali Zardari has done the right thing in sending a reference to the Speaker of the National Assembly for establishing a commission to create two new provinces — Bahawalpur and Multan. It is also the first serious move to get the ball rolling on these two proposed provinces that goes beyond point-scoring politics. It is for real and will see the move gathering a lot of political support from within the region and in other provinces.

Shifting Asia-Pacific landscape

Record, relief budget 2012-13

Courtesy:- S Rahman The government of the longest serving democratically elected prime minister of Pakistan, has set two national records simultaneously that of a tax-free, incentives-laden budget (2012-13) and presentation of the budget consecutively for the fifth time. This sounds good indeed and makes us believe that henceforth the democratic dispensations will no more be derailed by overambitious non-political and non-democratic forces. From now onwards, the people of Pakistan will be deciding their fate themselves i.e. through their elected representatives, as they have been doing during the last four-and-a-half years (approximately).
